Nalini Singh – Archangel’s Blade

The fourth book in the Guild Hunter series, published September 2011.

Archangel-s Blade

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh is back in the shadows of a deadly, beautiful world where angels rule, vampires serve, and one female hunter must crawl out of the darkness to survive...

The severed head marked by a distinctive tattoo on its cheek should have been a Guild case, but dark instincts honed over hundreds of years of life compel the vampire Dmitri to take control. There is something twisted about this death, something that whispers of centuries long past...but Dmitri's need to discover the truth is nothing to the vicious strength of his response to the hunter assigned to decipher the tattoo.
Savaged in a brutal attack that almost killed her, Honor is nowhere near ready to come face to face with the seductive vampire who is an archangel's right hand, and who wears his cruelty as boldly as his lethal sensuality...the same vampire who has been her secret obsession since the day she was old enough to understand the inexplicable, violent emotions he aroused in her.
As desire turns into a dangerous compulsion that might destroy them both, it becomes clear the past will not stay buried. Something is hunting...and it will not stop until it brings a blood-soaked nightmare to life once more...

Wow, how to write a review about such an action and emotion filled book? Dmitri has always intrigued my throughout the series. His unwavering loyalty to his Archangel Raphael, his constant testing of Elena because she is Raphael’s weakness. And now his own history is biting him in the ass. An old enemy is taunting him, leaving bodies for him to find, bodies with a clue to decipher. He needs the Guild to help him with that.
And Sara asks Honor to go the Tower, to Dmitri, as she is their ancient languages and code specialist. Honor, who is still recovering from being vampire bait for two long months. A prisoner to their every desire, she almost didn’t survive. But she did, and is healing, but still can’t sleep due to the nightmares. Even during the day, a sound, a smell, can trigger her memory and make her fall into a living nightmare again, fighting for her life.
Now she has to go to the most dangerous vampire of them all, in his own lair. Can she survive that? Dmitri is immediately attracted to this woman, who is so obviously terrified. He wants her in his bed, but she tells him no. A challenge! When Dmitri finds out what happened to Honor, he starts actively hunting the vampires that abused her. And takes her with him for her revenge.

Okay, not going to spoil anything of the story. I loved Honor and Dmitri, together and apart. Both very strong characters, who have been through hell and have survived. Both alone at heart, both fighters. A lot of action in this book, bringing them closer together, getting to know each other. Not really a surprising end, I think we all can see that coming. But still a very good book, with Raphael, Elena, Venom, Illium as secondary characters.

9,5 stars.

  4. I thought the ending was a bit too tidy myself, but who cares, because I love Dmitri. He and Honor were perfect. I he retained all of his irritating tendencies, but readers get to see his hidden side.
