Graham McNeil, the take-no-crap alpha of his unruly wolf Shifters, can drive human woman Misty Granger insane with his off-again, on-again attention. But when Misty is threatened, he comes instantly to her rescue, even if he has to bring along two little orphaned wolf cubs that have been dumped on his doorstep. Graham's wolf pack want him to take a Lupine mate for the good of his Shifters, but Graham's heightening bond with Misty jeopardizes his intentions, as does the deadly foe who locks Graham under his thrall and won't let go.

I did not really like Graham when I met him in previous books, he was rude and still a wild shifter at heart, used to rule by force over his pack. He was forced to join the Las Vegas Shiftertown a year ago, and into co-ruler ship with Eric. His pack is still not happy with him, and they want him to mate with one of their females. But Graham is just so very much attracted to this human female, Misty. They met a few months ago and they have been seeing each other, going out on dates, but that is all. Graham knows he cannot mate with a human woman. But when Misty is in danger thanks to her younger brother Paul and his prison connections, he races to the rescue.
And that turned out much more dangerous than he could have expected. Not only do the human thugs best them, leaving him severely wound and his precious bike shot to pieces, their ancient enemy gets his claws in him. When Misty sets out to find them some shelter from the hot desert sun and some water, she finds a big cool cave and a hiker who offers some water. She is very happy and brings some back to Graham. What she doesn’t know is that the water has been spelled, and that the Fae wants Graham as his personal pet and fighter. Graham fights as hard as he can to get free from the spell, but it does not work out.
Graham can’t just give in, he has his cousin Dougall to protect, as well as the two little wolf cubs/orphans he is taking care off. If the Fae gets him, he will get control of the whole pack, if they don’t kill Dougall first for being weak.
They will have to get rid of their Collars faster, because somehow, the Fae can control it and turn the Shifter into a puppet.

A strange man comes to Misty and offers his help, but she doesn’t trust this Ben. Who is he, and how does he know about all this? Is he one of the bad guys?

I love everything Jennifer Ashley, and if you have been following my blog, you certainly know that. This Shifter series is one of the best out there, and in this new book, Jennifer introduces a new species. Ben. And it was amazing to read, and a lot of fun. Ben also explains about the two little cubs, and what they are. They sure are special.

I had so much fun reading about Misty and those little cubs, and how she teaches them how to eat icecream. Graham was a bit harder to like, he keeps issuing commands at Misty and yelling at her, and trying to tell her what to do, and what not to do. And she just ignores him and goes her own way, even once telling him it is over, she doesn’t want to see him anymore. Of course, alpha as he is, he can’t give up on her, and in the end he does defy his pack and goes for Misty as his mate. He even has to acknowledge that loves exists, even stronger than the mating bond ...

A great book, lots of humor and action, and unsuspected twists, and of course some very hot love scenes. I love Jennifer Ashley’s writing style, for me it blends all the components I love in a book perfectly.

9 stars.
