#1 New York Times bestselling author's Laurell K. Hamilton's first short story collection-including an all new Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter story.

Known for her darkly violent, stunningly erotic Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novels, New York Times bestselling author Laurell K. Hamilton reveals new dimensions of her talent in these fantastical fairy tales and lush parables as she welcomes readers to the far corners of her fertile imagination.
From a woman who marries into a family of volatile wizards to a couple fleeing a gang of love-hungry cupids, from a girl who seeks sanctuary in the form of a graceful goose to the disgruntled superhero Captain Housework, readers will revel in the many twists and turns of fortune in these unique, sometimes surreal visions. Hardened vampire hunter and zombie animator Anita Blake gets blindsided by the disturbing motives of her clients in the never-before-published "Those Who Seek Forgiveness" and in "The Girl Who Was Infatuated with Death."

I think this book is only fun for the real fans of Laurell K. Hamilton. It contains a lot of short stories written by her, especially in the start of her career, when she was rejected a lot for being an unknown author, and short stories were published in magazines. I liked the introduction to all the stories, how they came to be. There are two short Anita Blake stories in her, and I liked those especially. Some of the stories are a bit disturbing though, but she has also included some straight fantasy stories that really make me want to read a full length book in this world.

The cover really put me of for a long time, but it has nothing to do with one of the stories whatsoever. There are not really sex scenes in this book, or anything extreme. So I am glad I finally read it and I can put it with the rest of her books on my LKH shelf.

7 stars.

  3. I haven't read her in a while. I'm still behind on her main series and so I need to add this one to the mix when I start back in again. Thanks for the rec.

    1. Hi Lily, there are two short Anita stories, but you could read them even if you are not familiar with the series itself. The rest of the stories are mostly pure fantasy.

    1. But these are old stories from the beginning of her career Anna, with introductions that make them extra fun. I am a bit surprised you are put off by the sexy cover though.

    3. You will just have to cover it up then :) It has nothing to do with any of the stories, promised.

  6. there are a few books I haven't read in the series or maybe one? lol in any case I haven't read this one because it was released when I was only reading in French and well I continued the series after that. Maybe I should one day.

    1. It has nothing to do with the series itself Melliane, so you can read it anytime.

  7. Yeah, I think I got this one from the bargain bin of a chain bookstore, and then it sat around for so long that I eventually sold it to the used bookstore. I like LKH well enough, but I think you're right--only die-hard fans will appreciate this (or any of her short stories IMO).

  8. Yes, I love her writing style Felicia, and you know erotica is so not my thing, but I will read whatever she writes. You could try the first 8 books or so. Her world is amazing.
