Damaso claims his heir photo w517120_zpsyv6uvkxw.jpg

When opposites attract!
Damaso Pires should have known better than to get involved with Marisa, the scandalous Princess of Bengaria! Yet soon he sees her true beauty and flawless virtue, which touches a place in him he'd thought had been ruthlessly destroyed by his childhood on the streets of Brazil.
But their brief affair becomes permanent when Marisa reveals she's pregnant.
Damaso knows the sting of illegitimacy and, having fought tooth and nail to claw his way up to the dizzying heights of international success and financial infamy, he won't let his child slip from his grasp. There's only one way to claim his heir - and that's marriage!

Princess Marisa has been painted by the press as a real party Princess, ever since she was 15. The truth is far from that, but no one sees it, or believes it. Least of all Damaso Pires. He meets Marisa while they are in the Brazilian jungle, rockclimbing and exploring. And they spent one very hot night together. But when he suddenly starts feeling things for her he has never felt for another woman before, he rudely leaves her the next morning.

When they meet again a month later in one of his eco resorts, and he finds out she is ill, he wants to visit her. He never stopped thinking of her. And when he eavesdrops on her conversation with the doctor, he finds out she is pregnant! Or rather, they both find out. And before Marisa has a chance to get used to the news, he tells her they will be married as he will be a part in his child’s life.

But Marisa is not so easily convinced, and Damaso has to do his best to show her his sincerity. She agrees to stay on his private island for a while, especially as the press and her uncle, the next King of Berengaria, are on her tail already. Slowly, they get to know each other, but dare they believe in love, when they have never really known it?

This was another very nice story by Annie West. Marisa is a strong woman, used to showing the world her smile and dazzling everyone one she meets. But she goes home alone, and she needs no one. She is still grieving over the loss of her twin brother, and sleeping with Damaso was not a light decision, but she saw something more in him. Was she so wrong after all?

I liked how they opened up to each other, and how it took weeks for them to sleep together again. Marisa is no pushover, and Damaso soon realizes that he has feelings for her he never wanted to have. He finally sees the real Marisa behind her Princess facade, and he knows he does not only want his child, he wants her in his life, forever. But now to convince her ...

I really enjoyed the story, the original setting and especially the original beginning of the book. It was slow, and yes, there are some hot love scenes which I enjoyed as well.

I must have been reading too much romantic suspense, as I kept thinking: Damaso will investigate her family, and he will find out that her evil guardian uncle has killed both her father and her brother, so he could become King himself ...
But this is romance, a lovely sweet story that kept surprising me, and made me fall in love with both characters the more I got to know them. But Annie, did he?

As stated before, category romance is not one of my favourite genres, but for Annie West I gladly make an exception. Recommended if you just want romance and a smile when you finish the book.

9 stars.

  1. Considering how low the Romance genre ranks on your to-read list, Annie West obviously has a knack for doing the impossible, that being making you love a story that's way out of your comfort zone. Nice!

    1. Hmm I like romance just fine Carmel, but I prefer kick ass heroines mostly ;)

  2. Aurian, I'm so thrilled this one hit the spot with you - even though it's not a romantic suspense with a killer uncle :). I enjoyed the dynamic between Marisa and Damaso too and that made it an intriguing book to write. Great to hear they're winning friends. Thank you so much for taking the time to read another of mine, and for the thoughtful review.

  4. Another winner. I also read it. I loved to read how the two of them overcame their past and grew to love each other. They made each other whole.

    2. I've learned not to expect the expected when reading a AW book ;-)
I loved the ending, I could see it happening in my head like a movie. A church à la Sisi and then Damaso barging in...
      LOL
