Joanne Fluke - Key Lime Pie Murder

This is the ninth book in the Hannah Swensen Mystery series, and I read it over the weekend. As I was spending the entire weekend with my boyfriend, I didn’t have much reading time, a page here and a chapter there. My computer broke down, so no chance to blog either.

Key Lime Pie Murder

It promises to be a busy week for Hannah Swensen. Not only is she whipping up treats for the chamber of commerce booth at the fair; she's also judging the baking contest; acting as a magician's assistant for her business partner's husband; trying to coax Moishe, her previously rapacious feline, to end his hunger strike, and performing her own private carnival act by juggling the demands of her mother and sisters.

With so much on her plate, it's no wonder Hannah finds herself on the midway only moments before the fair closes for the night. As the lights click off, she realizes that she's not alone among the shuttered booths and looming carnival attractions. After hearing a suspicious thump, she goes snooping - only to discover Willa Sunquist, a student teacher and fellow bake contest judge, dead alongside an upended key lime pie.

But who would want to kill Willa and why? Before long Hannah is sifting through motives and a list of suspects which include a high school student Willa flunked, the hot-blooded brothers of a disqualified beauty contestant, a rodeo cowboy, a baking competitor who failed to win her yearly blue ribbon, and the college professor Willa was dating.

Moishe’s behaviour is troubling Hannah greatly. He has no interest in eating or sleeping, he just wants to sit in front of the window and watch the neighbours house. But why? Notting is happening there! In the end, Hannah finds out they have a little female cat, but due to allergies, they have to get rid of her again, and it’s breaking the sisters heart! Norman immediately offers to take her, and so Moishe finally gets to meet her!

Hannah is very busy solving Willa’s murder. She keeps discovering details about her life, that no one who was close to Willa knew. She was married, she’s been in prison! But did she get a divorce from the man who led her astray? Is that the motive for murder at last? Not the beauty contest, not the marriage proposal turned down, but a husband? And who was he? And is it the same man who burglarized the rodeo kasregister?
And when an other rodeo worker gets seriously injured, Hannah finds more clues. But will she find out who the murderer is in time to tell Mike, or will the murderer find her first?

It was a close call for Hannah this time, and a great mystery. Mike keeps irritating me with his behaviour. Honestly, being gorgeous and a great kisser cannot make up for that! Even when he very sometimes makes a sweet remark!
