The gift of sight comes at a dangerous price

When Deep Down Salvage begins the hunt for the Josephine Marie, it seems like any other dive . . . until Genevieve Wallace sees the vision of a dead woman in the water, her vacant eyes boring into Genevieve's very soul.
Terrified and confused by what she saw, Genevieve is haunted by the memory, but no one -- including her diving partner Thor Thompson -- believes her. When a dead woman washes up on shore, everyone assumes this is Genevieve's "vision," but Genevieve knows the truth: the dead woman is not the ghost she saw but another victim of the same brutal killer.
Sensing that the threat of death is coming closer, she and Thor are forced to acknowledge that some things can't be explained, but simply are. Somehow they have to link a violent past with a present-day mystery or risk losing themselves in an abyss of terror.

Two professional diving teams are working together on a Government financed expedition to find the remains of a Spanish ship carrying a fortune in gold, in the beautiful Ocean near Key West. Genevieve Wallace is one of them, she is a great diver, and knows her way in these waters as she grew up here. But while searching for debris from the ancient ship, she suddenly sees a dead woman in the water, anchored to some rock, and when the dead woman tries to communicate with her, she completely loses it.
Her colleagues nor the police find any trace of a dead body at the spot where she was diving, and her friends keep teasing her merciless about it. The water is playing tricks on her, but Genevieve knows what she saw, and she won’t stand for it.

Thor Thompson, the head of the other diving team, thinks her a flake and does not want an unstable diver on his team. But she sure is hot! And so, while thinking she is nuts or losing it, he still dives with her as his new partner, and they sure rub each other the wrong way, getting involved in a dangerous bet.

But when Genevieve starts having nightmares that come way too real, seawater floods her bed and nightclothes, she needs help. A friend of hers calls Adam Harrison to investigate, and Genevieve is surely relieved to find out that she is not going crazy or imagining things. Of course Adam thinks they are all fakes and phoneys, and is worried when all he gets from his secret government contacts is that Adam is the real deal. He refuses to believe in any of it.

When a dead woman is found on the beach the next day, they all think it must have been the woman Genevieve has seen in the water, Genevieve knows better. That was a different woman. She does not hide her opinion from the police either, so do they really have a serial killer on their hands here? And if so, it must be someone local, someone they all know …

Other women go missing, and when the last one is Genevieve’s psychic friend, the clock starts ticking seriously. Something his seriously wrong here in Key West, and not only in the past they are investigating, put in the present.

I devoured this book in one evening. It was so intriguing, I had to know what was happening, who was the killer, and what was real. I liked Genevieve, she did not give in to pressure, she believed in herself, and I did not fault her for not wanting to be alone with nightmares like that. And stubborn, stubborn Thor who acted like he did not notice the seawater flooding his bed and cabin after one of her nightmares, almost seeing things in his own dreams. I loved the joke played on him when he had breakfast with Adam and his son Josh. I went all what? Josh died in the first book … what is happening here? Of course no one else saw Josh, even though Adam would have loved to see his son himself. And Brent of course. I loved that, I really did. How could he keep denying the existence of ghosts now?

The plot was scary and good and I did not see it coming at all. I liked Genevieve and her friends and the description of the dives and what really happened on board the ship they were looking for. Real evil does exist. I completely agreed with Genevieve on what she did, and how she could not trust anyone anymore.

A compelling story, great characters too. I would have liked it if her friends had stopped teasing her a bit sooner though. But I liked them and wonder if I will see any of them in another book. The books can really be read as stand alones if you wonder about that, and I can’t wait to start the next one.

10 stars.
