My name is Raine Benares – and it sucks to be me right now. I’m a seeker who managed to “find” the Saghred, a soul-stealing stone that gave me unlimited power I never asked for or wanted. Now I’ve managed to lose the rock – and the magic it gave me – to a power hungry goblin dark mage whose main goals are my death and world domination.
I’m still bonded to the Saghred, and the dark mage can’t use the stone as long as I’m alive. If he kills me and gains control of the Saghred, he’ll become an evil demigod with the seven kingdoms at his mercy. This is more than enough incentive to plan a little trip to the goblin capital of Regor with a small band of good friends, not so good friends, and one outright enemy. Don’t ask.
All we need to do is destroy the Saghred, kill the mage, and put a renegade goblin prince on the throne. Did I mention I’ll be doing that with no magic?

So far this is the last book in the series, and I can gladly say that it has a very satisfying ending. Things are changing on Mid thanks to Raine and what she has done, and there is the prospect of other stories in this world. But this story arc with the Saghred is finished, and it was good.

Now that Sarad Nukpana has stolen the Saghred, Raine and her friends have no other choice but to go to the Goblin city and take it back, or destroy it. If Sarad Nukpana starts feeding it souls to build his Gate, he will destroy the elven race and every goblin who opposes him. But they will have to use mirror magic to get there in time, and the most powerful mirror mage in the city is Raine’s biggest enemy in town: Silvanus Carnades. She does not like to see him out of his prison cell, but if he makes sure they all get back safe, he won’t get the death sentence. But is that incentive enough for Carnades? Or will he betray them every chance he gets?

The fighting starts before they are even gone, and they have to flee the demon invasion through the mirror only to be walking into goblins determined to kill all of them. But somehow they are saved by goblins of the resistance, lead by Tam’s brother. Raine did not even knew he still had family, but it was really good to see that reunion, and how welcome Talon is to this new uncle. The resistance will lead them through the caves and underground tunnels into the city, and help them get to a safe place.

Raine has completely lost her magic, so she has to rely on her previous skills as a seeker and of course her weapons. Just like before she encountered the Saghred, basically. There are only a few people who know that, but when Carnades finds out, he attacks her immediately. He still believes her a traitor of the elven people. Luckily, Piaras is there to save her in time.

It was a very action packed book, and I loved every page of it. It was really nice to meet Tam’s family, and how they are all fighting against their mad king. They accept Talon even though he is a half breed, and that is something both most goblins and most elves hate. Carnades especially wants to purify the race again.
Mychael is very protective of Raine of course, but she holds her own, and he trusts her to do so.
Tam’s former teacher plays a big part in this story as well, he is a specialist when it comes to Reaper’s and Raine needs them to suck dry the Saghred. But if the man has forgiven Tam for going down the Dark path, that is to be seen.
I enjoyed how the Goblin prince fought for his fiancée, who was stolen by his brother and then by Sarad Nukpana. The lady in question was also very much in love with her prince, and not afraid to fight for him. The big shock was that Sarad Nukpana has a mother, who is even more evil than he is.

Lots of action, all my favourite characters are fighting together, a great plot, lots of surprises, both good and nasty, and a awesome ending. Yes, I loved this series and will certainly read it again some day, while waiting for new stories in this realm.

10 stars.
