My name is Gwen Frost, and I go to Mythos Academy -- a school of myths, magic and warrior whiz kids, where even the lowliest geek knows how to chop off somebody's head with a sword and Logan Quinn, the hottest Spartan guy in school, also happens to be the deadliest.
But lately, things have been weird, even for Mythos. First, mean girl Jasmine Ashton was murdered in the Library of Antiquities. Then, someone stole the Bowl of Tears, a magical artifact that can be used to bring about the second Chaos War. You know, death, destruction and lots of other bad, bad things. Freaky stuff like this goes on all the time at Mythos, but I'm determined to find out who killed Jasmine and why - especially since I should have been the one who died.

After her mother died, Gwen had to go to school to Mythos Academy. She really doesn't fit in there, as all the other students are loaded, and wear the latest fashions and have the most expensive accessories. And they all seem to believe in the ancient legends their teachers talk about. They also get classes in weaponry, and fighting, and they are really good at it. Not Gwen though, she is really bad at it. But she is good at sneaking out of school, and visiting her grandmother, even though that is against the rules.
And when she discovers the body of a dead girl in the school library, where she works part time, it is really strange that no one seems to care. Like it is normal for students to die on school property. And no one seems to miss Jasmine either, not even her best friends. No, her best friend seems to be having a relationship with Jasmine's boyfriend, and that did not just happen overnight!

Slowly Gwen starts to realize that the things her teachers tell about, were real, and that the students at Mythos Academy really are the children of the heroes back then, and are destined to fight against Loki and his Reapers of Chaos. And Gwen is in the middle of it all, if she wants to be or not.

I re-read my review of 4 years ago, and that time I did not really enjoy this book very much, but my tastes have changed a bit over the years, and I have read a few of the next books since then, so this series has grown on me. I knew what to expect. So I liked Gwen a bit better, she is still grieving about her mother's death, as they were very close, and she has no idea why she has been sent to this school at all. She really doesn't want to be there. She has no friends, but she has a strange ability that comes in handy. She is a Gypsy, and her talent is that she can find lost things. If she touches something, or someone, she just knows things, and often, things she really did not want to know at all. But she makes some money finding lost cell phones and such.

I hope to read the next book soon, and finally finish this series one day.

7 stars.

    1. Yes, that is a bit my problem as well, everyone seems to love it to pieces, but I just like her writing, not love it. So with so many more awesome series and books out there, she is just not so high on my list.

    2. I know, Aurian! It's getting really bad. I really must stop buying books but I just can't. I think that the only thing that will help now is, is if writers stop writing books :) Underwise, it's just hopeless.
