Genre: urban fantasy / paranormal romance
Cover: I love it, Camille is my favourite sister and behind her is Morio, one of her husbands.
There's a new Fae sorcerer in town - Bran, the son of Raven Mother and the Black Unicorn - and I'm the unwilling liaison between him and our new Earthside OIA. With cemeteries being ransacked and spirits being harvested by a sinister, otherworldly force, Aeval sends us to rescue the missing wife of a prominent member of the Fae nobility. Our search leads us to the mysterious Aleksais Psychic Network and, ultimately, to face the Lord of Ghosts. There, Morio and I must undergo a ritual that will plunge us directly into the realm of the dead.
13 books into the story already, and I am still far from being bored. The battle against Shadow Wing commences, but Camille also has to focus on her training at Aeval’s court, and her training as the new Dark high priestess of the Moon Mother.
This time, they have to fight off zombies and bone walkers, and try to safe bewitched witches from sacrificing themselves to eggs hatching soul demons. Which is not an easy battle, as those demons feed on magic, so they can’t use it to fight them. Only silver will hurt them.
Camille meets Pentangle, the Mistress of Magic, on the astral plane, and she tells her how to defeat Gulakah, before he imbalances the worlds any more. His feeding on ghosts, and creating more of them, is a vicious circle, and it needs to be stopped. But it will be very dangerous for Camille. She will have to go undercover at the next recruiting meeting from the Aleksais Psychic Network to get close to Gulakah. And for that, Trillian and Smoky will need to go to Otherworld to buy her a high grade illusion charm.
A great series, which I recommend to all lovers of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The three sisters are very different from each other, but all committed to the fight, and are very close knit. I love that, and all the people they have “collected” over the years to help them fight evil. Each sister stars in each fourth book in the series, so you get a different point of view and a more close up on their personal lives and what they have to learn. Delilah as a Death Maiden, and Menolly as the Consort to Roman, the vampire Prince.
I really enjoy the multitude of paranormal creatures, the ancient ones, and the current ones, all stepped out of myths and legends and made real. Like Ivana, the Maiden of Karask, Grandmother Coyote, one of the Hags of Fate, the Autumn Lord, and many more.
Yes, a lot of characters to keep track of, but those books are so full of action, you will blast through them. There is room for hot and hotter sex scenes, but also a bit of real life, loss and love and hardship. They don’t win every battle. Yes, as Camille has three husbands, there are ménage scenes in this book. But what I liked most, were the pieces of her training, and her encounters with the powerful female figures and Fae Queens.
You HAVE to read this series IN ORDER, even though there is a short introduction in each book.
