Pregnancy has turned FBI agent Cynna Weaver's whole life upside down. Lupus sorcerer Cullen Seaborne is thrilled to be a father, but what does Cynna know about kids? Her mother was a drunk and her father abandoned his family. Or so she's always believed …
As Cynna is trying to wrap her head about this problem, a new one pops up in the form of a delegation from another realm. They want to take Cynna and Cullen back with them - to meet her long-lost father and find a mysterious medallion. But when these two born cynics land in a world where magic is commonplace and night never ends, their only way home lies in tracking down the missing medallion - one also sought by powerful beings who will do anything to claim it…

When Cynna and Cullen had sex, Cullen knew immediately that he had made Cynna pregnant. Something Cynna refused to believe, until the pregnancy test confirmed it. Cullen has left her alone, but he was always there for her, looking after her.
And now a delegation from another realm wants Cynna and Lily to come back home with them, to find an important missing medallion. But Lily is unable to travel without her mate, and Rule can't leave his people at the moment. They also need Cullen to make the portal to their realm. But those gnomes are unreliable and try to trap them all, and Cullen destroys the portal, but not before it sucks most of their party into it, including the odd no-longer-demon Gann.

A strange journey awaits them, adventure and danger everywhere. And Cynna's father, whom apparently fell through a "doorway" into this realm, like many other humans over the years. He did not abandon her and her mother after all, he was just unable to come back to them. But humans are considered inferior by the races populating this dark realm, as they have little to no magic. And still, they need a human to find their most important artefact for them…

I enjoyed this story, it was strange and original and compelling, and I liked how Cullen and Cynna became closer because of it. And yes, true love keeps you safe from Faerie glamour …

I do look forward to the next book, but I do hope for more Lily and Rule and especially Lily's grandmother.

8 stars.
