Genre: paranormal romance
Cover: strong, dark
Tatijana of the Dragonseekers spent centuries encased in ice with her sister, trapped in limbo between life and death, never speaking to a soul other than those who tormented her. Now, she has been freed from her frozen prison by an unknown descendent. Awakened in human form, Tatijana yearns to explore the modern world in which she now lives-a world with more mysteries than she is prepared for.
Fenris Dalka has returned to the Carpathian Mountains after a long absence to be with his brother. He is scarred by centuries of battle, and every hard-won victory. But the real reason for his return home could prove deadly if discovered by the wrong man-or woman. Upon his arrival, he is compelled by a beautiful and enigmatic stranger who carries the scent of fresh earth, of forest, of the night itself.
In time Tatijana and Fenris will discover all that unites them-their secrets and pasts, their predators, and the hot flush of passion that stirs their souls. Yet just as surely, seduced into the silvery darkness of a full-moon night, they'll also discover everything ancient and evil that exists to destroy them.
This series started in 1999, and after a few lesser books, it is really going strong again, and I still love it. I have read the last few books out of order, so I was a bit lost at times.
Tatijana is curious about the outside world, she doesn't trust the Carpathians that are guarding her and her sister much, and she wants to learn on her own. They don't know yet that she has awakened, but she has and she is exploring the world. She is very powerful, she is Dragonseeker, and that means her second form is a dragon. She is far from helpless, even if some stupid humans think she is easy prey. She doesn’t need Fenris' help, but she appreciates it, especially when they stumble upon a huge rogue Lycan pack, under control of a sange rau (half vampire half rogue Lycan).
They can't fight them alone, they need the help of the Carpathian people, especially when it becomes clear the sange rau wants to kill the Carpathian Prince. They will also need the help of the elite fighters of the Lycans.
This is a really good book in the series, very much filled with action and fighting, and intrigue, but the romance held me captivated, as they both were not in a rush for the mating bond, they took it slow, even though they both knew they were lifemates. Tatijana was just getting ready to start living her own life, after being imprisoned for centuries by her evil father, and Fenris was afraid what exchanging blood with her would mean for her, as he was no longer a fullblooded Carpathian himself. The Lycans would kill him on the spot if they would find out, and he was not sure how the Carpathians would see him, but in order to save his Prince, he would do whatever it takes.
Another thing I enjoyed, was some more background on the ancient customs of the Carpathians, their hidden caves and how they communicate with their ancestors. It was beautifully written and meaningful. Men and women are equal there, even though most men still think women are to be protected, there are some fierce warriors among them. I like that.
I really liked Tatijana and am very curious about her sister. As I write this review, the next book, Dark Blood, is on its way to my house and I hope to read it soon.
9 stars.

VerwijderenI'm glad you are still enjoying this series, Aurian! I think I gave up after Dark Predator :)
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI think the last 5 books are so, are improving a lot again, after all the repetition of a few years ago.
